The role of your solicitor must be as follows, the cost is approximate 1.000£:
To check if the title deed is in order
To check if the land is free of outstanding mortgage
To advice on the contract
To ensure the money transfer is made correctly
To apply and follow up your application for permission to buy property at the council of ministers, this can take up to 12 months
To handle the conveyance of the property into your name and advise about taxes.
In addition on the purchase price, following expenses and taxes will incur:
VAT 5%
Council tax: 1%
Transfer Fee 6% (or 3% life option reduced tariff)
Electricity and water connection

Title deeds
There are 4 types of deeds:
Free hold – Foreign title:
the title is internationally recognised
and previous owned by European residents.
Freehold – Turkish title:
owned by Turkish Cypriot
TRNC title: property previously
owned by Greek Cypriot prior to 1974,
and given as compensation or sold by the
Government of TRNC
Leasehold title: Government
property, lease can be granted for 49
years.
